Role Purpose

To provide leadership, direction, and technical expertise across projects relating to architectural design processes, by overseeing the architectural designs, providing innovative design solutions while considering best practices, and adhering to regulatory requirements to ensure the effective and accurate realization of architectural designs aligned with project visions and requirements.

Key Accountabilities

Team Supervision

  • Organize and supervise the work of the Engineering team to ensure that all work within a specific area of the activity is conducted in an efficient manner, which is consistent with operating procedures and policy.
  • Provide on-the-job training and constructive feedback to the Engineering teams to support their overall development.
  • Promote the organization’s values and ethics in all activities within the team to support the establishment of a value drive culture within the organization.

Budgeting and Financial Performance

  • Monitor the financial performance of Engineering versus budgets, when applicable, and ensure all activities are carried out in line with the approved guidelines while promptly reporting on any variances to management.

Stakeholder Engagement and Communication

  • Provide regular feedback to internal stakeholders (e.g., relevant Nesma & Partners departments, project teams) on relevant design matters, to keep them informed and to adhere to business requirements.
  • Collaborate and build long-term relationships with project stakeholders to discuss and present concept design and to obtain strategic feedback across project lifecycles to make required changes, and identify shortfalls, challenges, and opportunities.
  • Provide guidance and assistance to project teams and relevant stakeholders to accurately interpret design specifications to ensure accurate and successful execution.
  • Collaborate with suppliers and contractors to source materials and products that adhere to sustainability standards and that meet project requirements to minimize the environmental, social, and economic impact.

Key Accountabilities

Architectural Design Development and Reviewal

  • Direct the development and updating of detailed plans to deliver high-quality designs that support the overall project specifications.
  • Develop relevant engineering standards for architectural designs (e.g., material selection, service providers) to ensure adherence to the overall design plan.
  • Liaise with the procurement and contracting departments to procure architectural services and materials related to the overall design plan to implement quality designs across projects.
  • Guide the effective use of supporting approaches or tools (e.g., VDC, BIM) to deliver accurate and innovative design proposals to clients across projects.
  • Oversee schematic designs and drawings across construction projects to ensure they adhere to the overall project vision and specifications.
  • Lead design decision-making by making critical decisions regarding design challenges, modifications, and design changes before the project starts and during project phases to contribute to the project’s success.
  • Ensure the implementation of sustainable and environmentally friendly practices and promote the use of materials with long-term sustainability and durability to ensure minimal need for material replacements across project lifecycles.

Key Accountabilities

Architectural Design Development and Reviewal

  • Liaise with other engineering disciplines across the project lifecycle to effectively coordinate design disciplines (architectural, structural, mechanical, civil etc.) for seamless integration across project designs, to contribute to overall project success.
  • Participate in project site inspections, and site coordination meetings, and oversee the development of as-built drawings and models.
  • Lead the evaluation of design solutions across projects against industry trends to ensure that the project designs align with best industry practices.
  • Direct the implementation of quality assurance checks across all architectural design processes to ensure consistency and accuracy across all designs.
  • Review design deliverables across construction project phases to assess design alignment with project specifications throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Accountabilities

Regulatory Compliance

  • Remain abreast of local and global regulations and legislation of the engineering industry to apply relevant changes where required across project design practices.
  • Ensure compliance with local and global legislation and regulation (e.g., International Organization for Standardization (ISO)) related to architectural design and drawing to ensure compliance and obtain relevant architectural certification.

Policies, Systems, Processes & Procedures

  • Provide inputs and implement policies, systems, and procedures for the Engineering team so that all relevant procedural requirements are fulfilled.

Continuous Improvement

  • Participate in the identification of opportunities for continuous improvement and sustainability of systems, processes and practices considering global standards, productivity improvement and cost reduction.

Quality, Health, Safety & Environment (QHSE) Management

  • Contribute to the implementation of procedures, and processes to promote a culture focusing on the achievement of world class standards in QHSE and sustainability within Engineering in line with regulatory requirements.

Reporting

  • Prepare and produce reports timely and accurately to meet Nesma & Partners and department requirements, policies, and quality standards.

Education/Certification

  • Bachelors in Engineering, Architecture, or any other related field.

Experience

  • 6 years’ related experience with 2 years’ experience with growing supervisory accountability in roles within similar positions.

HSSE Regulation & Compliance, Stakeholder Engagement & Alignment, Project Management, Risk Management, Cost Control & Budgeting, Regulatory Compliance Knowledge.

Techical Preferred

Education/Certification

  • AutoCAD Certified Professional, Certified Quality Engineer, or other similar certifications.

Experience

  • Experience in the EPC industry.
